BEN Mille Miglia Rally, England to Italy, 20th-29th June 2009

The Other Half of Team Anglia

I’m Roy and I make up the other half of Team Anglia. We had a brilliant time on the Trafalgar to Red Square Rally back in 2007, so when I heard about BEN’s Mille Miglia Rally I couldn’t wait to sign up.

It’s going to be a challenging trip, especially driving our 1964 Ford Anglia Super through the mountains of Italy. Then again, we managed to make it through seven countries in 10 days on the last rally, so I’m sure it’ll be a doddle!

Team Anglia

My background is in the hometown of Ford, Dagenham. Both my father and grandfather worked at Ford and also, for a while, so did my gran! In fact I still have the original 105e Anglia that my family purchased direct from the factory in 1960.

In 1976 I took up a ‘Snap-On Tools’ franchise and ran that for 24 years, with a further six years as an independent with ‘Cornwell Tools’. In 1978 I was in partnership with a friend running a Speedworth hot-rod for a couple of seasons. This was as a direct result of having both Barry Lee and the engineers at Burton Power as customers - and it was back then I first met John. And the rest, as they say, is history!

I now work at Burton Power and am enjoying new challenges with a much respected motorsport company.

If anyone out there is interested in taking part in the BEN Mille Miglia Rally – it’s not too late! Just give the Events Team a call on 01344 294720 or email eventsteam@ben.org.uk for more information. It will be a challenge, a laugh and a great way to raise money for BEN.
