Team Anglia Take on the Challenge
My name is John Bowers and I am one half of Team Anglia. I work as a Consultant Engineer and by the time we set off on the Mille Miglia rally I will be 61. My interests include reading, listening to classical music, clay pigeon shooting, travel, pub quizzes, scuba diving and, in more recent years, messing around with old cars!
Our vehicle is a 1964 Ford Anglia Super which Roy and I have modified by fitting a 1600GT engine, disc brakes, custom built Cobra seats and various other updated or specially built parts; gifts from companies supporting our efforts for BEN. Ford Motor Company has sponsored our entry while Burton Power provided us with invaluable material and moral support.

I have been a supporter of BEN since I first went to the RMIF Annual Dinner in 1994. It is true to say that had I not picked up a pamphlet for the Trafalgar Square to Red Square Rally for BEN in 2006, Team Anglia would never have even existed! I certainly would never have considered driving a 43 year old car across seven countries in ten days so it just shows what getting involved with BEN can do for you!
I am really looking forward to the challenge of driving through the mountains in Switzerland and Italy and the camaraderie that builds between the crews and support personnel. I can’t wait to get away from the daily toil for ten days and do something positive that will impact on the lives of those who are, for various reasons, less fortunate than I.
To anyone who is thinking about signing up I would advise them to seek out a kind-hearted sponsor and get your entry in ASAP. You certainly won’t regret it and you will never have experienced anything quite like it: 3,000 miles in ten days and, to top it all off, you get the chance to drive around the definitive rally route for a wonderful cause!
